Rio Tinto Case Study

Rio Tinto Bell Bay Aluminium

Over the past 12 months, Rio Tinto Bell Bay Aluminium have trialled a corporate volunteering partnership with Launceston City Mission. Its success has provided significant benefits and laid the foundation for ongoing collaboration, with Rio encouraging their staff to be involved to better understand community needs and highlight the power of volunteering.

Inspired by the services offered by Launceston City Mission and the support provided to clients, Rio staff undertook a major project at the organisation’s crisis accommodation site. The overgrown gardens had become a jungle and needed a total makeover. Over the course of four dedicated volunteering days, staff completed the work, generously purchasing garden supplies and tools and bringing in qualified maintenance crew to help with pruning.

The clients staying at the site are grateful and delighted that this space now feels like home. Rio Tinto staff have committed to ongoing garden maintenance, ensuring the space remains safe and inviting. This corporate partnership exemplifiesthe tangible benefits of corporate engagement in the community and reflects strong commitment to meaningful collaboration.
