“Listening to one of the residents share his personal story” (volunteer)
The impact of the activity was felt widely across participants, the host organisation, and the community. For Orana House, the refreshed garden created a more welcoming and uplifting environment for residents. One resident shared that the makeover made the space “more inviting and enjoyable,” expressing deep gratitude for the team’s efforts. City Mission highlighted the broader significance of volunteer support, noting their work with more than 600 volunteers and emphasising how projects like this strengthen community wellbeing. For the Rio Tinto volunteers, the day fostered strong teamwork, camaraderie, and pride, with “smiles, laughter, and conversations about long‑term employment at Rio” underscoring how meaningful the experience was. The shared lunch added a personal and memorable touch, reinforcing the connection between volunteers and the community they were supporting.
