Beaconsfield Neighbourhood House and Rio Tinto Bell Bay Aluminium

  • 75 volunteer hours
  • $3,566 value to the community

Fifteen Rio Tinto Bell Bay Aluminium employees spent two days volunteering at Beaconsfield Neighbourhood House, a key community hub supporting wellbeing, connection, and resilience across the Tamar Valley. Through Volunteering Tasmania’s Corporate Volunteering Program, the team worked alongside staff and regular volunteers in the community kitchen, preparing meals and baked goods to support upcoming programs and events.

“Helping an organisation that helps others was so rewarding.” (volunteer)

“It was great to learn about all the positive things that this community house does to support the community” (volunteer)

Across the two days, volunteers cooked large batches of pumpkin soup using produce from the House’s garden, baked a variety of goods for morning teas, reorganised the pantry, and portioned around 40 meals for distribution. They also prepared sausage rolls and pasta bolognaise bake for a community dinner scheduled the following day.

The House was bustling with activity: Book Week celebrations, knitting and gardening groups, and a busy community morning tea, creating rich opportunities for conversation and connection. Volunteers shared how much they valued working together in a different environment and gaining insight into the needs and strengths of their local community.

Beaconsfield Neighbourhood House expressed deep appreciation for the practical support and the positive energy the team brought. The activity boosted the House’s capacity during a busy period and strengthened community connections, leaving volunteers with a strong sense of purpose and pride in what was achieved together.

“One of the highlights of the day was rolling up our sleeves at Beaconsfield Neighbourhood House, cooking alongside community members and sharing plenty of laughs along the way!” (volunteer)
