Local Council COVID-19 Resources

Youth Volunteer Army

As part of the Safeguarding project, Volunteering Tasmania worked with three local councils, Clarence, Huon Valley and Devonport to respond to the impacts of COVID-19 and develop relevant support for local councils and their volunteer communities.

These resources have been developed based on local council and community feedback and input. They are designed to provide guidance and support for local councils and their volunteer communities during the COVID-19 pandemic and into recovery.

In addition to the development of these COVID-19 resources, Volunteering Tasmania has supported Clarence, Devonport and Huon Valley Councils to deliver community-based projects that support volunteering beyond COVID-19. Each region identified a project that would respond to the needs of their volunteer communities and Volunteering Tasmania supported the delivery of these initiatives.

Clarence Volunteering Short Films

A series of short films were developed with local volunteers to celebrate and promote the valuable contribution volunteers make in Clarence and encourage people to volunteer in the community to support recovery efforts.

Devonport Online Volunteering Support

We supported Devonport City Council to upgrade their excellent volunteer website and promote a wide range of places to volunteer in Devonport.

Huon Valley Foundational Support for Volunteering Groups

We delivered a ‘train-the-trainer’ workshop in the Huon Valley, with the expectation that participants would go back to their respective volunteer group/organisation and educate others in the community. The council are developing a page on their website, solely dedicated to volunteering opportunities within the region and aim to have volunteer groups/organisations in the region listed with their generic contact email address.

Volunteer Connect

Volunteer Connect is a national volunteer referral system which connects volunteers and organisations. It allows people to search for a new volunteer role and for volunteer-involving organisations to advertise for and recruit new volunteers.
